A look back in pictures at two days of reflection and scientific dialogue dedicated to the intellectual legacy of Abdelmalek Sayad, held on May 14 and 15, 2026, at UM6P – Mohammed VI Polytechnic University Campus Benguerir. Organized by IAS UM6P through the Chair of Transitions, in partnership with the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung North Africa, the University of Liège, Border Studies Research Group, the University of Sousse, and Ibn Tofaïl University.
Initiated by Prof. Montassir Sakhi, this international conference brought together nearly 40 presenters and speakers from ten countries to collectively reflect on contemporary migrations, borders, diasporas, and mobility dynamics.
Researchers, teachers, and specialists from the Humanities and Social Sciences have explored the continuing relevance of Abdelmalek Sayad’s thought, particularly around migration as a “total social fact,” changes in migration policies, and the lived experiences of migrants.
